About the artist:Kevan Murray is an artist & illustrator from Gravenhurst, Ontario, where she was raised by a strong people known as the Jonses. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art, majoring in painting and drawing at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After a brief time in Northern Alberta, she set up shop in Nanaimo, BC.
Her journeys across this fine nation excite the deepest, quietest parts of Kevan's doodle-brain. The multitude of cityscapes, tree lines and mountain ranges between Canada's coasts have always held her attention. Now, the doodles don't stop flowing. Ever. Her paintings, oil, acrylic and mixed media, are an exploration and interpretation of her interactions with the evolving identities of the geographies and communities with which she connects. What began as a critique of civilization, has evolved into an appreciation for and curiosity about why, as members of society, we do the silly things we do. Kevan's career, as both a painter and an illustrator is tied strongly to those silly human habits. Sometimes poking fun at, but more often plainly pointing out, the undeniable humour in our existence. |
